HEIRLOOM TRADITIONS CHALK TYPE PAINT

Heirloom Traditions Chalk Type Paint contains no V.O.C.’s and are suitable to be used indoors. They are water based and are easy to clean up with soap and warm water. Our high-quality paints offer a color line of 50 vivid colors like no other paint line on the market today. Each of the paint colors are high hiding, contain saturated pigments and require no primer or sanding prior to use. Most of our paint colors require only one coat, depending on the look you might be creating. Our chalk type paints are easily distressed and have an age-old appearance, once they are waxed with our line of soft wax or spray waxes, which are designed to give new paint finishes the time-worn look of an aged finished piece.

Heirloom Traditions Chalk Type Paint is suitable for wood, metals, ceramics, glass, fabric, leather, etc. The bonding properties of this product are like no other. It dries to a matte finish with little to no preparation of the surface before painting.  The paint has a velvety smooth finish when waxed with one of our 13 wax finishes.

Paint FAQ

HOW DO I KNOW HOW MUCH PAINT I NEED?

Below is an easy square footage chart for each of our sizes.  This is based on one coat.  Please keep in mind that your piece may require additional coats depending on the surface and the color you are painting.

  •                   8oz covers approx. 35 sq ft
  •                   16oz Pint covers approx. 70 sq ft
  •                   32oz Quart covers approx. 140 sq ft

I ONLY BUY PRODUCTS MADE IN THE USA.  WHERE ARE YOUR PRODUCTS MADE?

Our products are proudly made in Louisville, KY.

CAN I USE YOUR PAINT WITH OTHER BRAND’S FINISHES OR YOUR FINISHES WITH OUR BRANDS OF PAINT?

You most likely can.  As the manufacturer of a full premium finishing line, Heirloom Traditions only tests its products with its products and not with other company’s products.  They very well may work so we encourage you to test a small area first before doing your entire piece to make sure they’re compatible.

WHAT TYPES OF ITEMS CAN I PAINT WITH YOUR CHALK TYPE PAINTS?

Down in Kentucky, they say if it doesn’t move fast enough, it gets painted.  Heirloom Tradition's chalk type paints are designed for painting furniture; however, they will pretty much adhere to most any surface.  This includes laminates, metal, glass, Formica and even fabric.  For slick surfaces or for kitchen cabinet makeovers, we do recommend using our priming product.

IS YOUR PAINT SAFE TO USE ON BABY FURNITURE?

It is and it works great!  The only product we would steer you away from for furniture that a baby might put his/her mouth on would be soft wax products.  Luckily, we sell them in a spray version that is a safe alternative so that you can still have that great antiquing effect on your painted piece.

ARE YOUR PRODUCTS SAFE TO USE INDOORS?

Most products are safe to use indoors.  The only products that do require being applied in a well-ventilated area are our polyurethane topcoat, Best Chalk Topcoat, and the new leather renew product, ReLuv.

About Cling On! Brushes

The CLING ON! is made of a specially engineered mixture of the best synthetic filaments in various lengths and diameters.  The bristles are fully locked in epoxy cement to prevent loss.  Brush features a stainless steel ferrule and a beech wood handle.

Cling On Brushes offer better coverage with super smooth results and are the easiest to clean! The main component of the mixture is a very high-quality nylon filament. The durability of this filament is 5 to 9 times higher than hog bristles and up to 1.5 times higher than most polyester filaments.   Dyeing the filaments also increases the clean ability, because the paints can hardly stick to them.   The nylon filament is very smooth and supple and its flagged tips provide a “velvet like” touch and a smooth and flawless finishing. It retains its stiffness in water and returns perfectly in its original shape. This filament is resistant against almost all chemicals and solvents and withstands high temperatures without losing its characteristics permanently.

Cling On brushes were designed by a professional painter and are handmade in Holland.

How to Care for Cling On! Brushes

– Before using, soak the brush in water to get it wet all the way through.  Shake brush to get out excess water before using.

– Don’t worry about cleaning your brush when done, simply put it in a bowl of water so that the bristles are fully submerged and leave overnight.  By the time that you go to get your brush again, the paint will have come off and your brush is ready to use or hang to dry.  *Be sure that the bristles don’t touch the bottom of the container (use  something to attach the brush to the container) and the brush will retain its shape.

– If needed, re-wet the bristles as you are painting.  Wetting the bristles will keep the paint from hardening on the bristles and keep your paint smooth.

– Use will all water based products.
